Fire Meditation and why you should try it

Sky above, Earth below, Fire within.

Referring to the fire within our souls, the use of fire meditation can awaken the fire within you.

For the first time ever, I tried fire meditation. I was drawn to it because I am a fire sign and often find strength in the thought that my sign is ruled by fire. The benefits from doing fire meditation however is indescribable. Immediately after the meditation I felt relaxed, but in the week that followed I felt invigorated and enlivened. It was as if I had a new  appetite for life. To think that a few minutes of staring into a flame can has such an effect on you is just amazing

What you’ll need

A candle, a quiet place and a table. The table is so that you don’t have to strain your neck if the candle is on the floor. It is better to keep it at a higher level.

How to:

Sit with your legs crossed, either in lotus pose or crossed legs depending on your level.

Start of your meditation practice with 2 minutes of Kabalabathi breathing

  • Take 2 normal breaths
  • Now inhale then exhale rapidly and forcefully pulling in your abdomen with a backwards push
  • Follow on from here with a rapid inhalation and exhalation (through the nose) pulling in your abdomen with each exhalation
  • Continue for 1-2 minutes. Always listen to your body, if you need to breath normally, then take a break.

Now  light the candle and continue breathing normally (for example 4 inhale 4 exhale)

Stare into the candle for 5-8 minutes. Notice how the flame moves, connect your inner flame with the candle flame. Focus your inner energy on the flame

Now close your eyes. You will see the flame for a few more minutes in your minds eye. Don’t let it go, keep focusing on it until it disappears ( about 2 minutes).

Finding fulfillment in the little things

A year has come and almost passed us and it’s time to look back at what it has taught me.

The biggest thing entering my life this year has been my yoga practice. I discovered yoga after deciding to try my hand at e-commerce. My husband suggested that I sell gym wear since I’m really into health and fitness. I decided to sell leggings and after doing some initial research found that there are a lot of people selling gym wear. I then stumbled upon the yoga community through Instagram. At first I tried to market my products on my Instagram page but soon realized that it would be better for potential customers to witness my leggings in action. I didn’t know it yet but this decision would change my life.

I started looking at pictures of yogi’s in extreme as well as easy looking poses. The extreme ones were so inspiring and I thought to myself that I could easily do some of the easier ones. So I started doing the poses just to advertise my leggings. Soon I realized that I couldn’t just always do the same poses so I did some more research met some great people on IG and started to do a few yoga flows.

In March I went through something that completely crushed me and I followed along a yoga video from Boho Beautiful. It made me feel great. Throughout the video I was mindful of staying present. Focusing only on what my body is doing and where I was at that moment. It helped calm my heart and my mind and I fell in love with yoga.

In the months that followed I added more and more yoga to my gym routine and in September I started doing my Yoga Teacher training. For the year that lies ahead, I’m moving down to Busan in South Korea and I feel enthusiastic to start teaching Yoga in the New Year.

Hosting my first Yoga Challenge

During the month of June we hosted our first Instagram Yoga challenge. We decided to make it a Chakra themed challenge. Each day we would focus on a different chakra. We even used the colors of each chakra somewhere in our IG Yoga Posts. We gathered a few beautiful hostesses on Instagram

To me it was one of the most fullfilling experiences I’ve ever had. The yoga community is such a loving and accepting one. Everyone played along and a felts such a sense of LOVE from everyone throughout the challenge.
