Christmas Gift Ideas for the Geek in you.

My brother, his wife, my husband and I are all a bunch of geeks. We love movies, TV shows, PC and console games and all books not excluding comic books. We love all kinds of merchandise, some more than others and we often buy these things for each other over Christmas or Birthday, so here are some gift ideas from some of our favorite franchises.

Dr Who

My brother absolutely loves Dr Who. His favorite Doctor is the 10th so last year I got him the Dr Who Screw driver but I also liked the Tardis clock and USB drives and then I always like the idea of the cups who change color or pictures when they are hot or cold.

Pokemon.

For those of you who don’t know it yet, Tony Moly, a Korean beauty company has collaborated with Pokemon to create some really cute makeup products that include blusher, tint, skin cover, face packs and even body lotions and creams

You can currently find it at amazon at more or less the same price we get it here in Korea. Most of the stuff are Pikachu but you can choose some of the other Pokemon too when you buy cleansers and creams

  1. Tint
  2. Blusher
  3. Skin cover
  4. Face Packs
  5. Creams

In addition there are some cute Pokemon plush toys available at Amazon. I’m particularly mentioning this because they’re prices are around $7 each whereas we are charged $100 here in Korea for the same thing 😦

Star Wars

My brother is a huge fan of Star Wars and I think he would just love these, OK the toaster might be excessive but the idea of it looked good.

On the 7th day of Christmas-Nutella no-bake Chocolate Cookies.

Today’s recipe is the Nutella no-bake chocolate cookies. What can be better than a smooth melt in your melt, mix of butter and chocolate. This is a lovely and easy recipe that you can make within minutes and its a fun recipe that you can do with your kids. The longest part is waiting for it to cool but with the winter weather you can already dig into the cookies minutes after you put them on the baking sheet. They do however taste better after they’ve been chilled. This recipe has originally been prepared by Jocelyn and you can find it on insidebrucrewlife.com

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 cup Nutella spread
  • 2 cups quick oats
  • 3 cups sweetened shredded coconut

This recipe was really easy to make and you can freeze it until a later date or keep it in the fridge if you want to eat something sweet everyday. It is a little bit rich but that doesn’t matter if you only eat one or two at a time

On the 6th day of Christmas – Peanut Butter cookies

Today’s recipe is an old favourite. Ever since the creation of peanut butter people have been trying different ways to incorporate it into their food from peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to peanut butter sauce. Today we’re making peanut butter Cookies.

Admittedly I made these cookies plain but also made a batch of chocolate-chip peanut butter cookies. Everyone usually loves them so here’s hoping the kids enjoy it too.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter ( I used crunchy )
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1cups flour

1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

The original recipe can be found on www.food.com

img_6522What the dough should look like ( before I added the Chocolate chips) I divided the 2 into 2 equal parts and made half of them plain and the other half choco-chip.

The cookies without the chocolate chips were chewier than the ones with it but they were both equally delicious. The cookie dough can also be frozen for later use. Rolling them in sugar is essential.

On the fifth day of Christmas – Ginger cookies.

While I was making these it brought back so many memories of when I was a child. My grandmother worked in a boarding School kitchen, and every Christmas they use to make huge batches of cookies for all the students. I remember visiting her in December while they were making these cookies and one of their bakes were ginger cookies.

Ginger Cookies

INGREDIENTS

  • • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • • 1 cup white sugar
  • • 1 egg
  • • 1 tablespoon water
  • • 1/4 cup molasses
  • • 4 tablespoons white sugar

After mixing refrigerate for one hour before rolling the dough into balls.Preheat the oven on 350 degrees. Roll each ball in sugar and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 8 minutes.

The dough can also be frozen if you want to use it at a later stage.

I’ve seen other recipe’s online and I’ve tried a few of them but found that recipe’s with lots of butter work better than others.

On the second day of Christmas – The Basic Cookie

While I was not in the mood to wait 3 hours for dough to chill, I rather picked a simpler and easier dough- the basic cookie dough.

All you need is the ingredients below and 25 minutes of your time

INGREDIENTS

  • 225g butter, softened
  • 110g caster sugar
  • 275g plain flour

Recipe is from Allrecipes.co.uk

This recipe was extremely easy and the cookies baked very fast. If you don’t watch them however they can burn easily. I really liked this recipe because it only requires 3 ingredients and it’s something you can whip up in a few minutes.
