Bombay Brau- Haeundae Review

A few weeks ago we went to Busan City in South Korea for Chuseok ( Korean Thanksgiving). We always love going to Busan over the holidays because its close to where my brother lives and we usually get to visit the ocean.

We usually go to Haeundae because we once read that it was a great place to visit. There are always a lot of great western and foreign restaurants. One of these restaurants is Bombay Brau. It’s an Indian restaurant that sells THE BEST curry. If you’ve ever had the shop bought curry here in Korea you’ll know that its not all that. But this place has the best curry for sure!!

We’ve been there twice and will definitely visit them again. Their prices are reasonable at around 14,000 Korean won ($14). We usually take the Butter chicken with garlic naan but my brother has eaten lamb curry there and it’s just as good. They also have a variety of their own custom beer that you should definitely try.

Holiday insigts

For the past 2 weeks we’ve been back in South Africa. We’ve been soaking up the sun and visiting our families. It feels like the time have been flying at lightning speed.

At least we got to spend some quality time with our families. I feel sad because I miss them, but they all seem to be doing fine.

I also had the opportunity to spend some time with my stepmom. It took me some time to get use to her as my dad married her barely 6 months after my mother’s passing. After my mom died I didn’t really want to form any new connections in my life. It was so painful losing someone so close to me, and I had a lot of regrets. I remember telling my husband that I wanted to visit my mom on the weekend because I’m worried about her, by then she was already bedridden and didn’t really open her eyes or speak, but I use to talk to her in any case and sometimes, just sometimes she would open her eyes and faintly smile at me. But that Thursday, my dad phoned me and told me that she had passed away.

Since then I stayed away from new people and new relationships, but after this weekend I feel that I can start allowing people back into my life.

My outfit this week is my little Korean style dress. I like wearing it because it reminds me of Korea. It also has a loose fit and allows you to move around in it. I got it form Teeny Weeny in Seoul, Korea.

Workwear (Korea)

Korea is different from the western world, they have a different culture and ways of doing things. Although they also wear clothes that come from american and European companies there are still some taboos. For instance girls can wear extremely short miniskirts but it is totally inappropriate to show shoulders, collarbones or cleavage. The social laws seem to be relaxing nowadays but in some areas of the country it is still considered highly inappropriate. Therefore when coming to Korea try and keep it conservative as you will be working with these people’s children.

Summer Outfits

You should be able to get away with showing you shoulders as long as it’s not in a strappy top. In summer you can wear lovely floral dresses or skirts. Your shoes should be chosen according to your school. If you’re working at a private academy (hagwon) then go with flat shoes because you’ll be on your feet the whole day. In public schools however you’ll wear slippers inside the buildings so you could wear high heels to work if you choose.

It is always better to put your best foot forward in a new work environment. Your style can become more relaxed once you’ve settled and seen what the other people at your work wear. Generally though the Koreans are dressed to the nines. A lot of foreigners wear jeans to work here in Korea but they keep it formal rather than casual.

What not to wear to work!

Although this outfit is really cute it is not something you should wear to work. Uggs with jeans are OK in winter because it is freezing  but not with sweats and t-shirts. You are a professional, try and  act like it.
